MUMBAI: Ranbir Kapoor is three years young in Bollywood. And this 28-year-old who is to the manor born has a fan base that equals those of the supremely popular Khans and their contemporaries.
So how did Ranbir manage this enviable feat in such a short time? The answer is simple. This boy wonder has delivered consistent performances in every one of his films; besides giving back-to-back super-hits like Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and Raajneeti. What's more, this Kapoor scion has been very careful with his choice of films.
So when he chose Sajid Nadiadwala and Eros International's Anjaana Anjaani (releasing this Friday) over several other films, Bollywood stopped to take notice. They knew that Siddharth Anand's love story must mean something, especially since it has Ranbir's vote. True to this reasoning, the actor confesses, "Anjaana Anjaani is close to my heart for several reasons. First it is a great love story. And it's been really long since there has been a great love story told on screen. The film made me cry, laugh, dream... all at the same time... it's the kind of film that I as an audience would really look forward to.''
Ranbir also chose this film because the director of the film Siddharth and he have known each other since they were toddlers. And they worked on that racy love story Bachna Aae Haseeno together. "Siddharth gives an actor the freedom to improvise,'' says Ranbir; and he is also happy to work with Sajid — a producer who takes such a keen interest in his movies. "Sajid is a hands-on guy,'' he says.
Ranbir also knows that Anjaana wouldn't have been the enjoyable experience it was without his Anjaani Priyanka Chopra. Both actors almost started out as strangers to each other because it is their first film outing. However, by the end of the film, they shared a good work equation. The actor says, "PC is just like one of the guys on set. Not only is she a great actress but also a fun person to hang out with.''
