Making a movie is not an easy venture in Kolywood. Muscle and money matter more than the rules and regulations in releasing a movie in the halls. Yet more actors and actresses are into producing films to keep their career going on the silver screen because once an actor or an actress gets old, there is a high chance of being thrown out of the industry forever.
With growing age, many actors and actresses have stopped appearing in the movies; Sharmila Malla, Bipana Thapa, Dhiren Shakya, Basundhara Bhusal and Krishna Malla are a few names that the industry has forgotten. And to avoid a similar fate, many actors tend to become producers although the films produced by them are disappointing.
Actress Karishma Manandhar had to flee the country to make up for the loss she suffered in her home product Babu Sahib, Basnudhara Bhusal promised not to make any film after her Mahamaya flopped and director Yadav Kharel stopped producing films after his super flop Naso.
But actor Shree Krishna Shrestha has made Kaha Bhetiyala, which he loves to call a musical sweet love story.
As the name suggests, the film is truly a love story in which the lover and the beloved look for each other in turns. Sometimes the beloved misses the lover, and in the next scene it is the lover who misses the beloved due to external reasons.
The story begins in a highway hotel where Muna (Sweta Khadka), a beautiful worker in a hotel, kills a goon to protect her chastity. Her identity is as obscure as Heathcliff in Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights. She appears as a beautiful damsel who lures customers to the hotel right from the beginning of the story. And Abhishek (Shree Krishna Shrestha), a city boy, is a witness of the incident in which she kills the goon.
Though Muna is a totally new face for him, he runs towards the woods without a second thought to avoid the police. This is how the two hearts meet to carry on the story for about two-and-a- half hours.
In trying to give a commercial twist to the story, director Shiva Regmi has kept the entire movie within the frame of the tradinational film-making formula. This deviation may deceive some of the movie-goers who expect to see a film about the rescue of poor girls compelled to sell themselves in the highway hotels.
Despite being a formula film, Kaha Bhetiyala keeps the audience glued to their seats from the beginning to the end. There is suspense, and curiosity every time the plot thickens. And there is Nir Shah in the role of a good cop to keep the audience amused from time to time.
The movie that slowly moves to a serious tone really takes a serious turn after the interval when Muna keeps on searching for Abhishek, who is unconscious and is being treated by Dr. Kusum (Niruta Singh). Interestingly, Dr. Kusum falls in love with Abhisek even when he is in a coma and does not know that Muna, who is also with her, is looking for him until the last minute of the movie. The film ends happily as per the expectations of the audiences.
Kahan Bhetiyala is Sweta Khadka’s debut film, and she has done great justice to her role. Niruta too has done excellently in the later part of the movie. But the interesting fact is that Shrestha has not shown Niruta in the publicity materials of his first home product. In fact, most of the films Shrestha did with Niruta were box-office hits in the past. This time around, he has Niruta in a minor role.
As Shrestha himself is a popular dance icon in Nepali films, the dances of the film are attractive. Sweta too has explored her dancing talents. The actions look less dramatic compared to other films. But all in all, Sri Krishna has made a good film that will be cherished by the audience.
